Price: £76,500 ONO

On the back of the racing success in 1961, the Austin Healey 3000 MKII arrived featuring many upgrades to the MKI. There were 11,564 MKII’s built but only 355 were released in the rare BN7 format with just two seats and three SU Carburetors an upgrade to provide a sporting version close to the competition cars.

BN7 is one of the most sought after and collectible versions of the ‘Big Healeys’. Offered here we have a very rare BN7 example in exceptional condition coming to market for the first time in 15 years of ownership with just 12,000 miles on the clock.

CAS 704 was first registered in February 1962 supplied directly by the Abingdon Manufacturer to a US serviceman stationed at the time in Japan. It is seen here in it’s original colour scheme; Old English White and Red interior. According to production records it left the Abingdon factory in March 1962, with Sporting wire wheels, overdrive, a heater, adjustable steering column, a laminated windscreen, and Dunlop roadspeed tyres.

We know the car later ended up in Germany and underwent a full body off restoration in Belgium in 1991 which included engine, suspension and gearbox. The body was galvanised sealed, strengthened and resprayed in the original colour Old English White. The restoration is fully documented with pictures, after which time it was bought back to the UK with 10,000 miles on the clock before being sold to its present owner.

The current owner has the car on French registration plates, and in 2012 put the car through another major engine overhaul with a bill of £5000 to keep it in good running order. Needless to say there are regular bills, services and MOTs, this car has been well loved, meticulously kept and dry stored and covered a further 2000 miles.

The car comes complete with a working soft top, side windows, a Heritage Trust Certificate and full history file. Mechanically the car fires up first time, idles happily and has a smooth flawless performance, both overdrive and the brakes all work well.

Auto Addicts view: Next to the 100S this is the second lowest production Healey ever produced, and boy does it have some power! We took it for a gentle burble around the country lanes, it purrs along happily and would be a wonderful addition to a collection or perfect for road rallies and tours. This one has given great pleasure to its present owner and will undoubtedly continue to do so with the next, fully restored and fully documented it has everything going for it as a stand out example of the rare BN7 model and offering a great investment opportunity.
